- Admire The Ateshgah Fire Temple
In a small suburb of Baku, one of their temples still exists today and is one of Azerbaijan’s most popular tourist attractions named ‘Ateshgah Fire Temple’. The Fire Temple has a pentagonal structure with a castellation and entrance portal. The area is known for a unique natural phenomenon – burning natural gas outlets. That means that the underground gas coming up to the surface lights up as it makes contact with oxygen.
- Nizami Street
Named after former Azerbaijani poet, Nizami Ganjavi, the 3.5 kilometer-street (2 miles) forms the main shopping district. Stroll through, pay close attention to the architectural changes from the baroque, neo-gothic, and neo-renaissance façades and to more mundane Stalinesque styles.
- Wander along the medieval city walls
Heavily constructed city walls make up for some impressive palisades and some amusing photo opportunities. The walls often have parks and other minor attractions to roam around and catch glimpse of lively surrounding.
